Fiona, who trained in Podiatry, first learnt of Hansen’s Disease (also known as leprosy) in a Podiatry textbook in the late 1980s, before seeing it first hand on a mission trip to Pattaya City in Thailand in 2005. She joined the board of The Leprosy Mission Northern Ireland in 2013 and served as Chairperson from Sept 2014 – Jun 2024. She was co-opted to the Global Fellowship Board in November 2024, as Chair Elect.
Her working career to date has been spent in the UK's National Health Service working across a number of hospital and community services in clinical, managerial, service improvement and currently governance positions. She has also worked in the Northern Ireland Community and Voluntary Sector, where she served as Director of a Music Therapy charity for 13 years. Fiona is actively involved in the local church and serves as an elder in the Presbyterian Church of Ireland.
Married, with two grown up children and an adorable grandson, Fiona looks forward to the years ahead, implementing a new Global Fellowship strategy, serving the Global Fellowship and playing her role in being part of the generation that will end leprosy.
