The Leprosy Mission world

Sri Lanka

The Leprosy Mission (TLM) works with project partners in Sri Lanka to improve the quality of life of leprosy- and disability-affected people.

TLM currently supports three projects which cover 10 out of the 26 districts in Sri Lanka*.

Prevention of Disability (POD) and Rehabilitation Project in Jaffna helps to reduce leprosy-related disability and improve the lives of leprosy-affected people and their families. It includes a Catch Them Young scheme which provides sponsorship for children through school, community savings groups, and agriculture and fishing workshops to benefit the livelihoods of leprosy-affected people.

Empowering People with Leprosy and Disabilities has involved the establishment of a goat-rearing project. The goats are distributed on a revolving loan basis - once a beneficiary's goat has had kids, these are passed on to another set of beneficiaries.

Prosthetic Limbs Project increases mobility and quality of life for people affected by leprosy and disability through the provision of prosthetic limbs.
